You might be surprised at what you can figure out about your snowblower if you try. My level of mechanical expertise is a moderately complex Lego set, and yet I was able to diagnose & fix a problem with our snow blower earlier this winter.

The trick is to ignore the fact that you don’t know diddly-squat about what you’re doing and apply standard computer troubleshooting techniques…
1. Smack the device. Smack it HARD.
2. When Step 1 fails, swear loudly while pretending you’ve muted your phone.
3. Apologize for swearing.
4. Sacrifice a goat (or a chicken, but a goat is preferred).
5. If the sacrifice does not appease the angry snowblower gods, then try the other standard computer troubleshooting technique. Send it up to level2 support. :p

Our office admin at work has a candy basket on her desk. It gets filled (and emptied) on a fairly regular basis. Today a bag of Easter (Peanut) M&Ms was added to it. I swung by and grabbed a couple to brighten up my morning and noticed some of the M&Ms had little sheep heads printed on them. So with apologize to Dr. Demento, I give you “Sheep Heads”

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

In the morning, laughing happy sheep heads
In the evening, floating in the soup

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

Ask a sheep head anything you want to
They won’t answer, they can’t talk

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

I took a sheep head out to see a movie,
Didn’t have to pay to get it in

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

They can’t play baseball, they don’t wear sweaters
They’re not good dancers, they don’t play drums

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

Rolly Polly sheep heads are never seen drinking cappuccino in
Italian restaurants with Oriental women.
Yeeaahh

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

Sheep heads, sheep heads, rolly polly sheep heads
Sheep heads, sheep heads, eat them up
Yumm!

Yum!

Some time ago, I was having a discussion with a friend where it came up that I like those nasty, orange candies known as circus peanuts. I don’t really understand why I like them myself; I just do. Since then, I’ve used the term “circus peanuts” in my head as mental shorthand for anything that I like which either isn’t any good and/or which I have no distinct reason for liking. I bring this up because my faithful readers will probably notice I started reading a book which wasn’t on my list of planned books, The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. I will not pretend that this book has the greatest story, characters or writing in the world; however it is a book which I have read multiple times and always enjoyed. I picked it up to read this morning as I looked over my unread book list and nothing on there appealed to me in the slightest. So I went with a “circus peanuts” book to have something to read over my lunch hour at work. Then as I was about to start reading the book, I started to wonder what other people’s circus peanuts might be. What do you think? What is your “circus peanuts”?

I couldn’t resist joining in on all the fun, helping to promote Mr. Scalzi’s write-in bid to become the SFWA president. My apologize to Grant Wood for bastardizing his painting but it made for a good joke (I hope). This poster was created entirely in GIMP and uses a Creative Commons licensed picture of Mr. Scalzi that I found on Flickr.

I should probably give you a bit of background, as not all of my readers necessarily read Mr. Scalzi’s blog on a daily basis. On 15 March 2007, Mr. Scalzi received his ballot for this years SFWA elections. After looking it over, he decided he had some problems with it and posted a note on his blog that he was now a write-in candidate. The next day he posted some promotional images/posters made for him by various fans. A couple of days passed and still he kept talking about this whole SFWA election. Naturally, this kept the fans pouring in with comments and additional images. Finally I could resist the siren’s lure no more and created the image you see here.

Update: For the closest thing to an explanation of the bacon on a cat thing, you’ll need to read this post over at the Whatever.
