I don’t frequently remember my dreams and when I do remember any of my dreams it’s usually only a single scene with very little detail. This morning when I woke up I had a couple of scenes from the same dream still in my head and then more detail than I’m used to. So I figured I’d share it with you. In part so I can remember it, but also maybe it would make a decent start to some sort of RPG or something. *grin*

Group of students, various ages meet together outside school building, each is holding some sort of personal item, most are rackets of some sort. They concentrate on the rackets, which glow, expand and then go over the owners’ heads and slide down. As the rackets go down, each student’s appearance changes becomes perhaps more idealized versions of themselves. Also the students now are standing in a lush forest area not in front of a school.

The students start racing off into the forest after one of them says something I didn’t catch. The last 2 students to head off are the student I’m tracking1 (a very young boy) and a female student. When they crossed over to the Otherside, she took on the appearance of almost a Greek goddess and he aged/got taller/grew a bread/suddenly had different clothes (maybe armor). He refers to the girl as “the Spider” when he asks what she’s planning. From the way the boy talks to her, I get the impression that they are not exactly friends but he does like her (sort of a proto-crush perhaps). Her reply seems to indicate she knows a little about what the other students are up to, though it’s vague.

They take off after the other students but they don’t move like kids running through a forest but with far, far greater speed more like cheetahs or leopards. When they catch up to the other students; all of them seem to be drawing more & more power to themselves from the clearing where they’ve stopped. The boy I’m tracking views this power they are drawing as something dangerous, alien and/or possibly an enemy. He starts streaking away back to where they crossed over, making some sort of comment to “the Spider” as he does so. Whatever it was he said was sufficient to have her follow him away from this place.

Then the dream scene fades out. When it resumes the boy I’m tracking has crossed back into the real world and is now sitting in a classroom. Where it becomes obvious the boy has skipped a few grade levels. It’s also obvious the teacher in this room is a pompous ass who won’t listen to the boy and the boy is extremely agitated. It feels like the teacher is picking on the boy, perhaps the teacher doesn’t appreciate having such a young/gifted student? The boy tries to explain what happened in the Otherside, but the teacher keeps cutting him off. Eventually the boy gets angry with the teacher and starts making threats. Still the teacher dismisses the boys concerns and that’s when the boy start demanding the teacher let him go speak to Lord Embries2.

When the teacher still dismisses the boy’s concerns, he simply walks out. He heads down the hallway towards the office. He gets up to a counter/reception desk for the Gifted3 students. He just starts to demand to see Lord Embries with just a bit of explanation of why he wants this, when a another young student runs up and gives a note to the woman at the desk. The note is from the pompous ass of a teacher and is all about the boy acting up in class, being threatening and demanding he be punished.

And that’s all I can remember from the dream now. Have a happy Friday!

1 Frequently in the dreams I remember, I don’t take part personally but sort of hover over the shoulder of one of the dream characters as they move about in their world. This is what I refer to as tracking. Though occasionally I will also see things though the eyes of of a character but have the impression that the dream character I see through is me.
2 I get the impression that Lord Embries is the founder/header of the school but also a feeling of him being a combination of James Bond & Albus Dumbledore. That is caring, wise & powerful but also young, dashing & heroic.
3 Gifted in this case refers to the ability to go to the Otherside and not to just being smarter than any other kids of the same age.

Philosophy being, I suppose, that the music that was popular during the time you made that high school-to-college transition is the music that shaped your Sonic Consciousness.

Whatever.

Anyway, here’s what you do. You go to the Music Outfitters website and type your high school graduation year into the search tool. Select the “list of the 100 most popular songs” and you will get the Raw Material for the next step in the process, which is to look through the list and decide which songs you hated, which ones you liked, and which one was your favorite.

Post the list on your Online Journal, striking through the songs you hated (or still hate) and boldfacing the ones you liked (or still like). Bold and underline your favorite song. No opinion? Leave it as-is.

For exta fun, we have a report coming out of Cincinnati of how the election officials locked out the media “citing concerns about potential terrorism.“

County officials say they took the action Tuesday night for homeland security, although state elections officials said they didn’t know of any other Ohio county that closed off its elections board. Media organizations protested, saying it violated the law and the public’s rights. The Warren results, delayed for hours because of long lines that extended voting past the scheduled close of polls, were part of the last tallies that helped clinch President Bush’s re-election.

Call me a crackpot if you will, but I’m siding with the media on this one. There was no transparency in that count and the public’s right to know was violated by the Warren county election officials. Now let’s take a look at a couple of other snippets from the article:

A representative of The Associated Press, which had stringers at every Ohio board of elections site, said no such election-night access problems were reported outside of Warren County.
…
County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel said commissioners “were within their rights” to restrict building access.
Having reporters and photographers around could have interfered with the count, she said.

Does it strike anybody else as odd that no other county in Ohio made any sort of notice about similar concerns? Or that not one other county had a problem with letting the media observe the count? According to Ms. Hutzel’s biography, posted on Warren County’s official website, she has been both the President and Treasurer of the Republican Women’s Club. Ms. Hutzel, if you don’t mind; please explain exactly how the media could have interfered?

Just I had another night were I stayed up far, far too late dinking around on my computer getting some stuff setup on my local test server. This means when my alarm went off this morning; I was still in the deeper levels of sleep and it awoke me out of some dreaming. As I usually do I just kept hitting at the snooze for as long as I knew I could get away with. Finally though it was time to get up and when I did so I could still remember bits of what I had been dreaming. Those bits were enough for me to discover that my dreams had been changing each time I smacked that old snooze button.

Dream One
This dream felt like some sort of fantasy anime show; where I was some kind of fighter/punk kid with an agricultural background. I was with a group of people that had several people but I could only recall a woman –who I now think must have been a cleric/priestess of some kind– and an annoying unidentifed male child who had no specific function/powers but somehow was vital to our quest.

Before you ask, no I’ve no idea what the quest really was beyond a vague notion that we were out to save the world. Anyway, we were traveling along with the water women. Who are they? Well, these are another strange product of the dream world. They look completely human but they pull water up and out of the ocean into large balls1 which they then get on top of and use to walk across water. They can even allow others onto the balls and to spilt the balls into 2 smaller balls that their passenger can use to go another direction from them. Though the smaller balls don’t last very long. The water women had a somewhat earthy look to them but my dream didn’t allow me to examine their looks; instead I was focused on their abilities.

To continue, our group had been walking with the water women for quite a ways and the one I was with, was telling us of some legend that they have. We were excited because the legend seemed to fit with what we were trying to do. After some lengthy walking, the water women spilt their balls with us and they started heading home as we had to go into forbidden territory. We continued onwards and shortly thereafter reached a massive stone wall that was starting to fall apart from age & neglect but still had something of a dock/platform on the outside. We hurried over to that and then got off the balls and onto it. The balls vanished as soon as we were off of them. Once we were on the platform; we noticed down and to our left was a door sized opening but it was blocked off with a 2 layers of simmering light. The outer layer was pinkish-purple and the inner was a calm sky blue. There was another opening in the wall at the back of the platform but it was too small for anyway to go through. Also for some reason, the platform was high enough that one could look over the wall but somehow one couldn’t just jump over it.

On the other side fo the wall, there was s stinky, swampy sort of purple oozy water and fog/haze. We could sort of make out that there was a pathway leading off from the larger opening in the wall. The woman in the group was complaining about the smell while my character seemed to think it smelt like home2. While we were arguing about the smell; suddenly the pinkish-purple light was gone as was the kid. We hurried through the larger opening and.…BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!!!

My alarm went off again.

Dream Two
After hitting the snooze, I went right back to sleep and I knew I was on the other side of the wall but now that area was different. Also, now I was actually me and the woman who was with me before was Ariesna. The area we were in appeared to have a stage in the center with bleacher style seating around 3 sides and at the back of the stage was a wall of prizes. There was a guy on the stage, but I don’t recall him saying anything. Instead there were announcers up in a booth at the top of bleachers to my left. We sat there for a bit and then the announcers started talking about an individual in the audience, who he called Cletus. The few people in the audience were yelling and clapping as the guy stood up. He turned out to look like the one of the ugliest hillbillies you ever did see. Tall and skinny like a bean pole, dressed in some ratty old jeans and a brown flannel shirt with a hunting vest over it (still somewhat orangish but toned down in color by the dirt) a red/black plaid cap with ear flaps and a scraggy looking blonde beard on his chin. I got the impression that Cletus might be some sort of TV star but I don’t know for sure. Shortly after that Ariesna was called to get a prize. She went on the stage and quickly came back with a small box. It turned out to be some sort of crappy shareware security program. I looked at it and looked at her. She popped back up and went over to the guy on stage. She showed him the box and asked about exchanging it. He looked at the box and said “Oh yeah, that’s [name of program]. Sure grab whatever you like.”

She did just that and came back with a small totebag looking thing with “m&m“3 embrodiered on the side. When she got to our seat, I suddenly had a PDA4 in my hands and it was reading off the value of the prize as being $58,326! We opened the bag. Inside under a couple of layers of wrapping & packaging was some electronic device. As near as I could tell it was some kind of home phone system and .….BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!!!

My alarm went off again and I had to actually get up. *sigh* I wonder what other programs I missed watching by not hitting snooze again.

1 Roughly, the balls have a 4 foot radius.
2 This is why I was thinking my character had some sort of agricultural background.
3 Like the logo for M&M’s candy.
4 No, I didn’t pull it out of my pocket and I don’t recall having one in the dream until the moment it appeared in my hands.

I didn’t sleep so good last night, not quite sure why. I went to bed late and was completely exhausted but partially woke up a couple of hours before the alarm clock went off. My wrist braces1 were bothering my hands, so I took them off and tried going back to sleep. That sort of worked but it wasn’t really good sleep, as I was still somewhat awake. Though that did allow me to somewhat realize that I was dreaming while I was doing so. Unfortunately, I either had no control over the dream or I did and just never cared to change it. Also, I had the distinct impression that this was not the first time I’ve had this particular dream, though I cannot recall any other time that I’ve woken from this dream.

So what was the dream? It had all the earmarks of some bad high-school romance movie from the ‘80s. There were 3 main characters:

NERD: This was the main character of the movie and the one that the camera2

GIRL: This was the main character’s love interest. She’s one of the popular girls at school, though not a cheerleader and is know to be friendly towards most everybody at school.

JOCK: This was the main character’s rival for GIRL and a member of the school’s football team. He’s also one of the popular kids at school, but is not known as a friendly guy. Also, I think it’s likely he came from a wealthy background (or at least his folks are better off than NERD’s folks).

NERD falls in love with GIRL who goes to the same school.
JOCK is dating the GIRL (maybe? can’t recall the early bits for sure) but really isn’t worthy of her in any case.
NERD starts “courting” GIRL, sending flowers and doing nice things for her.
GIRL sees NERD in new light after seeing him help various people.
JOCK causes trouble for NERD when he realizes what’s going on.
NERD doesn’t realize that GIRL was starting to like him, but tired of being picked on studies up on sports & popular stuff.
NERD becomes pseudo-jock and GIRL loses interest in him because NERD isn’t as nice as before.
NERD’s nerdy friends dump NERD for the same reason that GIRL lost interest.
NERD is confused by all these changes in his life.
JOCK is still mostly clueless at this point.
Then there’s a bit of a jump in the “movie” and we’re near the end, at the final football game of the season and the JOCK’s team is losing badly.
NERD calls in his nerdy friends (after much apologizing on his part, they forgive him) and they write massive calculations on a whiteboard convincing the coach to put NERD into the game.
NERD works with the entire team to save the game and they end up winning.
JOCK not happy that the NERD “saved them” and starts a fight after the game.
JOCK lands a few blows, but nerd has studied up on fighting too and ends up turning tables on JOCK, beating him into unconciousness. I think that JOCK taunted NERD about GIRL for a while and what he planed on doing to/with her.
GIRL nowhere to be seen.
Starts to rain.
NERD moves JOCK’s body into sheltered area to get him out of rain.
Sees JOCK’s team pin fell off and that another footballer is standing next to it. Asks footballer to hand it to him to give it back to jock.
Dream jumps, but impression is that footballer doesn’t like JOCK and gives pin to nerd.
NERD standing in rain outside GIRL’s house, but lights are out.
Then NERD sees some lights (candles/flashlights) flare up and realizes that somebody’s home but the power’s out.
NERD heads up to the house and is invited in by girl’s father.
Father looks like very successfully & fit nerd. Mother in background is gorgeous like the GIRL, just older.
Father asks mother to get hot drinks (guess the stove is gas) and a towel for the boy, “as they’ve got a lot to talk about”.

Then I woke up. Oh and in case you’re wondering, I used NERD/GIRL/JOCK because I can’t remember their “real names” ever being said during the dream.

1 I’ve had problems with my wrists and good ol’ Doc said it was likely RSI. He also recommended wearing braces on my wrists while I sleep. This has worked quite well for me, but my old braces were falling apart and I recently replaced with some new ones, but they don’t fit quite as well.
2 A lot of my dreams seem to make me feel like I’m either sitting behind the camera filming something or I’m sort of an invisible entity floating along side the main character in the dream, able to see everything happening in their area as well as get a sense of what people in the immediate area are feeling.

Once again, I stayed up too late doing nothing in particular (reading some websites, trying to figure out more WP stuff, playing UT2004, etc..) so I’m feeling extremely tired this morning. The other side affect of staying up so late is that I can remember some of my dreams from last night.

In the dream, I’m the captain of a commercial airliner (a Boeing 747, I think). We’re making a routine flight from somewhere to somewhere else when something goes extremely wrong. What exactly goes wrong, I can’t tell but I know that I’ve lost around half my passengers and an engine or two.

We make an emergency landing on an interstate or maybe on a turnpike and one of the wings (and one of the remaining engines) gets snapped off by a support column for an overpass and then we’re finally able to bring the plane to a stop.

The next thing I know my copilot and I are carrying some flat-bed like thing that I intrinsically know weighs around 1300 lbs. We carry through a couple of building hallways before meeting up with superior officers/crash investigators. They make some sort of joke, but I don’t laugh. Then we carry the flat up a slight incline, set it done, pause for a moment to remember those who died and then reach into a wall panel, pulling out some heavy duty computer cable, which then gets hooked into the flat.

That’s where I woke up, though I did have a fleeting sense that the flat thing was some how acting as a blackbox data/flight recorder device.

Note to self: No more late night tacos for dinner.
