Things I’ve Learned So Far

Since I’m not currently printing any of these images, my costs for doing this project is effectively zero. Since my costs are so low, I feel much more free to experiment. In fact, the last time I remember feeling so much freedom in making images was back when I was taking photography classes back in college[ref]I still remember Helen Grunewald’s classes with great fondness.[/ref]. That feeling of freedom has allowed me to be more playful in taking images[ref]Hence the number of light-trail images taken from moving vehicles.[/ref].

Camera Tips

While I bought a DSLR, in part to take advantage of it having autofocus; I find it to be very slow and have started to use the manual focus more and more. Also manual focus works even when you set the camera to use Live View mode[ref]Live View is Nikon’s term for focusing using the LCD and not the viewfinder.[/ref].

The zoom function of the lens for my camera is not locked tied to the focusing. With my ancient Pentax K-1000 SE and the second-hand zoom zoom lens I’ve got for it, if I could only zoom into my subject by adjusting the focus. Maybe this was a defect in that lens, but it’s what I was used to (until I accidentally adjusted the zoom while trying to manually focus a shot).
