Illegal Dumping

Before dinner this evening, my wife & I walked down to our local Farmer’s Market. It was a bit hotter out than I’d thought it would be, making me extra glad we’d brought along bottles of iced tea to drink. However upon returning home, we were dismayed to find our apartment to be a scene of some illegal dumping.

The Accused: Captain Jack — known aliases “Jack”, “Captain”, “Fuzz Butt”, “Stinky”, “Jacque”
The Crime: Illegal dumping (e.g. pooping on the bathmat not more than two feet from his litter box).
The Prosecuting Attorney: Me.
The Judge: Her Honourable Judge Michelle1

Statement by the Prosecution: In this apartment there are 3 living beings; myself, my wife and Captain Jack. Two of them were out of the apartment at the time of the incident. No illegal dumping had occurred prior to Michelle & I leaving for the Farmer’s Market. The apartment was securely locked while we were gone and there were no signs of forced entry.

Statement by the Accused: *meow*

Verdict: Guilty as charged. The accused is to have his nose pointed at, but not quite in, the illegal dumping to show him what he did wrong. Further, the accused is to held in solitary confinement for a period of not less than 10 and not more than 30 minutes.

1 Judge Judy ain’t got nothin’ on my wife! *grin*

Heck of a surprise!

Heck of a surprise!

After work this evening, Michelle & I walked over to the grocery store to pick up a few things for dinner. On the way back to the apartment, a fire-engine went driving by. I didn’t think much of it; as we live close enough to the fire department that this is a frequent occurance. Then we walked up into the parking lot and saw two fire-engines at the far end of the lot. There were a couple of people standing around but nobody looked paniced and they didn’t have the big hoses out. So we took the groceries inside and then I walked down towards the fire-fighters to try finding out what was going on.

Apparently, it was a small oven fire caused by a piece of oven mitt (or something like that) getting caught in the oven and burning up. I’m not too clear on the details, mostly because they had an extremely noisy fan hooked up to clear whatever smoke was in the building. Overall, there was no need to be alarmed but it was something of a shock to come home to flashing lights with fire-fighters standing around the place.

Spinach and Egg Pancakes

This is a favorite of Manzabar’s and mine. It is a recipe that goes good with a nice salsa to top off the pancakes. It roughly makes six regular pancakes altogether. This is similar to a recipe in a low carb cookbook but I added some extra goodies.

Spinach and Egg Pancakes

  • 8 oz spinach
  • 1 small leek
  • a few sprigs of parsley
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • oil for cooking
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • salt, black pepper and nutmeg for taste
  • 3 tbsp water

  1. Chop or finely shred the parsley, leek, and spinach. Add eggs and seasonings to the chopped vegetables. Blend in the flour, cheese, and add in the water. Leave to stand for about 20 minutes.
  2. Cook pancake mix in a lightly oiled frying pan. Cook until golden brown underneath then flip and lightly cook on the other side.
  3. When removing the pancakes and drain on kitchen towel and keep warm until finished with mixture.

Bah, I’m still a bit torked off about yesterday. At work1, there’s been a person who keeps sending up emails with the wrong code in the subject line. We use these codes to route the issues to the correct person and putting the wrong code on the email can mean a delay of at least a week before the issue gets looked at. Well, this same idjit2 sent an email asking for an update on one of those issues. Since I was running a process at the time; I looked over the issue, found it was mislableled, forwarded it over to the correct person and then spent probably 2 hours writing up a diplomatic response explaining the difference between two of the codes we use.

Over the weekend, Ariesna and I went to the Robert Burn’s dinner put on by HAGGIS. It was fun, though I did end up slightly annoyed. As none of our raffle tickets won anything and my friend Greg won a bottle of wine… just after he left. *grumble, grumble* Then on Sunday, I wasn’t feeling so hot which blew up into a full-blown cold today. Bah-humbug.

Still, being home all day gave me a chance to catch up on watching some of the anime I’ve been downloading. Some of it’s good and some of it’s not, which means I’ve got more to watch but I’ve also deleted some to free up drive space. More free drive space, means I can download more newer stuff. 🙂

In other news, one of my slightly, older posts has been getting a bit of attention from somebody out there. I guess I’ll have to keep watching that post to see how the discussion goes.
