When I awake from my nightly slumber only on the rarest of occasions to I recall dreaming and even when I do briefly recall dreaming; it is even rarer for any of the details to stick in my head long enough for me to write them down. Though oddly enough, during that time I do recall those details I frequently will say to myself; oh yeah, I remember dreaming that before. In any case, when I awoke this very morning; it was from the secret base dream.

Like other dreams I’ve had this one was a repeat; though there were new elements in it this time. The, for the lack of a better word, essence of the dream is a friend of a friend of a friend helped us out when we were needing a new place to live and we’re now renting out a decommissioned spy base. We’ve been living for some time (maybe a few months) and I frequently explore all the passages, hallways and rooms. There seems to be miles and miles of the base to explore. The base has a vaguely similar feel to the Aperture Science Laboratory; in the sense that parts are shiny/new while others are the shiny/newness of 30-50 years ago. Though none of the renting of the base or why we needed a place to live is ever explained in the dream; it’s all just understood in the wacky world of dream logic.

In previous repetitions of this dream, walking around the base is all I get to do. There are rooms with computers and strange machinery but I have no control or access to any of that. Today was different. Down one corridor, there was no a vending machine with an open box of chocolate Twinkies sitting next to it. I grabbed a package from the box, started munching on the snack and continued exploring.

After a going a bit further, I found one of the computer rooms I’d been in before; only this time one of the terminals had a blinking light on it. I tried typing at the terminal but got a access denied message; so I moved along. I found another terminal that seemed active in a new part of the base and tried logging on. Being part of the shiniest/newest section of the base, this terminal accepted voice commands and it gave me a weird form of limited administrator access. I couldn’t seen any files, but I did have full access to anything the machine controlled.

Then for whatever reason, I started back to our living quarters and when I got there; the place was swarming with people in uniforms. They wouldn’t talk to me or answer any questions, but they appeared to be forcefully evicting us; as they grabbed any/all of our stuff they could and started dragging it outside. They also obviously didn’t care about anything they were hauling as stuff kept falling down and breaking. I was getting pretty ticked off and shouted something….. Though I’m not sure what it was anymore.

In any case, remember how I mentioned that one terminal let me in with voice command access? Well, it turns out the entire base is wired for sound and my angry shouts were taken as commands by the base computer. Suddenly the careless thugs were very carefully putting our stuff back and there was a friend of the friends I know there calmly asking some questions and promising to replace all the broken items. In the bizarre way dreams work, it turned out that the reason all the equipment and computers were still here is they contained valuable information that the government wanted; but they hadn’t been able to access an of it. Why then they would allow the base to be rented to a civilian is never brought up; nor was it ever disclosed as to what happened to all the people who previously worked in the base. But they were happy to have my expertise in helping them. 🙂

With my new admin access and the access codes of this friend of my chain of friends; we were able to start copying information from the base computers. This is where two more oddities occurred. First, while the friend of my chain of friends and the government didn’t have any form of admin access when I used a nonstandard copying program on the base computer; they knew that instantly[ref]This is odd in a technical; or as a friend of mine might say, propeller-head kind of way. After all if they didn’t have admin access; how were they instantly noticing what kind of software I was using to copy the files for them?[/ref] Second, the friend of my chain of friends asked me if I knew how to use some particular piece of software on the base computer. I told him no and he replied if [REDACTED][ref]The name of one of the directors I work with at my real-life, day job.[/ref] knew that; she’d laugh and laugh about it.

Then I woke up.

I don’t frequently remember my dreams and when I do remember any of my dreams it’s usually only a single scene with very little detail. This morning when I woke up I had a couple of scenes from the same dream still in my head and then more detail than I’m used to. So I figured I’d share it with you. In part so I can remember it, but also maybe it would make a decent start to some sort of RPG or something. *grin*

Group of students, various ages meet together outside school building, each is holding some sort of personal item, most are rackets of some sort. They concentrate on the rackets, which glow, expand and then go over the owners’ heads and slide down. As the rackets go down, each student’s appearance changes becomes perhaps more idealized versions of themselves. Also the students now are standing in a lush forest area not in front of a school.

The students start racing off into the forest after one of them says something I didn’t catch. The last 2 students to head off are the student I’m tracking1 (a very young boy) and a female student. When they crossed over to the Otherside, she took on the appearance of almost a Greek goddess and he aged/got taller/grew a bread/suddenly had different clothes (maybe armor). He refers to the girl as “the Spider” when he asks what she’s planning.  From the way the boy talks to her, I get the impression that they are not exactly friends but he does like her (sort of a proto-crush perhaps). Her reply seems to indicate she knows a little about what the other students are up to, though it’s vague.

They take off after the other students but they don’t move like kids running through a forest but with far, far greater speed more like cheetahs or leopards. When they catch up to the other students; all of them seem to be drawing more & more power to themselves from the clearing where they’ve stopped. The boy I’m tracking views this power they are drawing as something dangerous, alien and/or possibly an enemy. He starts streaking away back to where they crossed over, making some sort of comment to “the Spider” as he does so. Whatever it was he said was sufficient to have her follow him away from this place.

Then the dream scene fades out. When it resumes the boy I’m tracking has crossed back into the real world and is now sitting in a classroom. Where it becomes obvious the boy has skipped a few grade levels. It’s also obvious the teacher in this room is a pompous ass who won’t listen to the boy and the boy is extremely agitated. It feels like the teacher is picking on the boy, perhaps the teacher doesn’t appreciate having such a young/gifted student? The boy tries to explain what happened in the Otherside, but the teacher keeps cutting him off. Eventually the boy gets angry with the teacher and starts making threats. Still the teacher dismisses the boys concerns and that’s when the boy start demanding the teacher let him go speak to Lord Embries2.

When the teacher still dismisses the boy’s concerns, he simply walks out. He heads down the hallway towards the office. He gets up to a counter/reception desk for the Gifted3 students. He just starts to demand to see Lord Embries with just a bit of explanation of why he wants this, when a another young student runs up and gives a note to the woman at the desk. The note is from the pompous ass of a teacher and is all about the boy acting up in class, being threatening and demanding he be punished.

And that’s all I can remember from the dream now. Have a happy Friday!

1 Frequently in the dreams I remember, I don’t take part personally but sort of hover over the shoulder of one of the dream characters as they move about in their world. This is what I refer to as tracking. Though occasionally I will also see things though the eyes of of a character but have the impression that the dream character I see through is me.
2 I get the impression that Lord Embries is the founder/header of the school but also a feeling of him being a combination of James Bond & Albus Dumbledore. That is caring, wise & powerful but also young, dashing & heroic.
3 Gifted in this case refers to the ability to go to the Otherside and not to just being smarter than any other kids of the same age.

The idea is to examine, in glorious detail, the Depths of Suckitude of the music that was popular when you got out of High School. Philosophy being, I suppose, that the music that was popular during the time you made that high school-to-college transition is the music that shaped your Sonic Consciousness.

Whatever.

Anyway, here’s what you do. You go to the Music Outfitters website and type your high school graduation year into the search tool. Select the “list of the 100 most popular songs” and you will get the Raw Material for the next step in the process, which is to look through the list and decide which songs you hated, which ones you liked, and which one was your favorite.

Post the list on your Online Journal, striking through the songs you hated (or still hate) and boldfacing the ones you liked (or still like). Bold and underline your favorite song. No opinion? Leave it as-is.

Well, I gotta put this here too. I am trying to keep my political stuff mostly in the political groups, but you guys should probably know that there’s a strong possibility that the elections were hacked, and that as a result we have Bush. I don’t see this as a conservative or liberal issue. I see this as an integrity issue that ALL Americans should be concerned about. Our first clue should have been that the exit polls indicated almost the opposite of what happened.

For more of the above posting go give this a read.

If a post of a LiveJournal user isn’t good enough for you, try these sites on for size:

For exta fun, we have a report coming out of Cincinnati of how the election officials locked out the media “citing concerns about potential terrorism.”

County officials say they took the action Tuesday night for homeland security, although state elections officials said they didn’t know of any other Ohio county that closed off its elections board. Media organizations protested, saying it violated the law and the public’s rights. The Warren results, delayed for hours because of long lines that extended voting past the scheduled close of polls, were part of the last tallies that helped clinch President Bush’s re-election.

Call me a crackpot if you will, but I’m siding with the media on this one. There was no transparency in that count and the public’s right to know was violated by the Warren county election officials. Now let’s take a look at a couple of other snippets from the article:

A representative of The Associated Press, which had stringers at every Ohio board of elections site, said no such election-night access problems were reported outside of Warren County.

County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel said commissioners “were within their rights” to restrict building access.
Having reporters and photographers around could have interfered with the count, she said.

Does it strike anybody else as odd that no other county in Ohio made any sort of notice about similar concerns? Or that not one other county had a problem with letting the media observe the count? According to Ms. Hutzel’s biography, posted on Warren County’s official website, she has been both the President and Treasurer of the Republican Women’s Club. Ms. Hutzel, if you don’t mind; please explain exactly how the media could have interfered?

Still not convinced that this election stinks? Go to Black Box Voting and see what they have to say about the security and tamperability of America’s electronic voting machines.
